During the warm balmy days of summer, a shimmering haze often hovers on the horizon -hence the name of the town. The green subtropical vegetation blends in well with the boisterously colourful bougainvilleas that can be seen almost everywhere. Most of Mpumalanga’s game reserves are situated just east of Hazyview. Kruger Gate, the main entrance to the Kruger National Park and the Skukuza Rest Camp can be reached via the town. Hazyview is centrally situated in a predominantly agricultural area that produces bananas, vegetables, coffee, nuts and spices. It is within easy reach of most of the major tourist attractions in the area, as it is only 35 km from Sabie, 38 km from Graskop, 44 km from White River and 64 km from Nelspruit.
There are mineral baths, several good hotels, caravan parks and holiday resorts in the immediate vicinity.

The evening festivals,
however, present a true intercultural experience. As the sun sets, the drums begin their rhythmic beat and the torch procession to the home of the chief starts. The night comes alive with the sounds of the choir singing, the people dancing and the storytellers telling ancient stories of the Shangaan.
