This village with its pleasant climate offers a pleasant combination of natural beauty and old-style buildings. The town was first named Wolwedans (Wolf Dance) referring to the hyenas in the area, which were incorrectly called wolves. The name was then changed to Great Brak River after the river that flows through it. The town is situated between George and Mossel Bay.

History And Architecture
Searle Memorial Church and Searle Family Graveyard: Charles Searle and his family were among the early residents of the area, having arrived in 1858. They are remembered in the Searle church and graveyard where many family members are buried.
Watson Shoe Factory: Many residents earn their living at this factory. The guided tours of the facility are enlightening and entertaining.
