Who we are
We are a private, intimate, and down-to-earth, self-catering game lodge. We cater specifically to small groups of families and friends of up to either 10, 6 or 4 guests per group. Our team is focused on ensuring that your stay with us is welcoming, comfortable and relaxing.
Where we are
We are nestled in the foothills of an extinct volcano, in the Black Rhino Game Reserve, a private reserve within the big 5 Pilanesberg National Park, North West Province, South Africa. We are a mere 2 ½ hours’ drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria.
Black Rhino Game Reserve
The Black Rhino Game Reserve is the first extension towards the completion of the corridor with Madikwe Game Reserve. With full access to the big 5 and many other fauna and flora, including over 350 different bird species, this malaria-free private reserve has exclusive use of over 19 000 hectares of the Pilanesberg National Park that is not accessible to the public.
All children are welcome and can join on the safaris if the lodge is booked for exclusive use. All children 6 years and older permitted on safaris. Maximum of 10 guests permitted in the lodge per night as well as on the safaris.
Mollo Thaba is made up of 5 chalets surrounding a main lounge and entertainment building. Each of the 5 chalets is an individual bedroom with an en-suite bathroom including outdoor shower. Free WIFI is available across the entire lodge.
Our intimate self-catering 10 bed lodge is made up of 5 bedrooms, each its own chalet with en-suite bathroom and patio. In the centre of the chalets is the main lounge, kitchen, dining room, bar and entertainment area with boma and splash pool.
One of the bedroom chalets is our honeymoon chalet and has its own kitchenette, lounge, patio and boma braai area.
Book all 5 chalets for exclusive use of the lodge, or for smaller groups book 2 of the chalets (Tambuti Retreat including the honeymoon chalet) for 4 guests, or 3 chalets (Mountain View including the central entertainment area) for 6 guests.
Included in each night’s accommodation are two standard 3 hour vehicle safaris. Extended drives may be added to a booking at advanced request, as well as a selection of addons including boma braai, potjie meals, welcome hampers, night sky discovery, walking safaris, and more.
The accommodations and entertainment areas are serviced daily and this is included in the rates. 2 vehicle safaris per night booked are also included. Management resides on site and are available 24/7. Additional costs are nightly conservation levies, firewood, gratuities, transfers and addons.
Check-in and check-out
Check in any time between 3pm and 7pm, check out from 7am to 10am.
Average temperatures in midsummer (January) range from a low of 19°C /66°F to a high of 31°C /88°F, and in mid winter (July) from a low of 4°C /39°F to a high of 21°C/70°F.
Average annual rainfall is 622mm /24in, and mostly occurs in the form of afternoon thundershowers during the period December to March.
How to get here
MolloThaba is within easy driving distance from Johannesburg: 213km/03h00 from OR Tambo International Airport. The route takes travelers via Hartebeespoort Dam. An alternative route via Magaliesburg offers the option to visit the Cradle of Humankind. A normal sedan suffices to access Mollo Thaba.
Lanseria International Airport to MolloThaba is an additional 50km so a hired car or transfer would be required to complete the journey.

• Accommodation in well-appointed individual chalets, each with en-suite bathroom

• 2 professional vehicle safaris for each night booked
• All amenities are serviced daily with the kitchens being serviced twice daily including
setting tables for meals
• Maximum occupancy for the exclusive use of the lodge is 10 guests (both
accommodation and safaris)
