Bosbokrand is named after the bushbuck, a species of antelope, that favoured the area surrounding the town for grazing. The town was established mainly as a result of the growth of agriculture in the area and its first trading store opened in 1884. The farmers in the area mainly cultivate crops such as tobacco, cotton and vegetables.

Shangana Cultural Village: This cultural complex consists of several villages and visitors can choose between different tours, events and festivals. The village allows visitors to see and experience the traditional lifestyles of the local Shangaan people. Professional tour guides tell many stories concerning their history and customs. The villagers’ craftwork can be purchased at various craft stores. Visitors can even experience a traditional meal in a chief’s kraal, as well experience traditional dancing and singing.
