When Mzilikazi and his followers left Zululand in 1825, they settled for a time at Bloukop, a village not far from the present-day town of Morgenzon. They later crossed the Limpopo to settle in Bulawayo in Zimbabwe. The village of Morgenzon (“Morning Sun”), about 47 km south-east of Ermelo, was founded in 1912 on a farm of the same name. Local inhabitants have their own name for this small town; they call it “Sivukile” (we stand up).
